Amarnath Yatra continues in peace, more pilgrims leave Jammu

More than 1600 pilgrims left Jammu for their Amarnath pilgrimage which has been proceeding in peace, officials said. The convoy of 34 buses and 15 light motor vehicle (LMV) is escorted by the security forces. Over 45,000 pilgrims have completed the Amarnath pilgrimage which commenced on July 2 using both the north Kashmir Baltal and south Kashmir Pahalgam routes.

From Baltal base camp, the pilgrims trek 14 kilometers to reach the cave shrine while the traditional Pahalgam/Chandanwari route is 46-km long and takes three days for a pilgrim to reach the holy cave. Helicopter services are also available for pilgrims from both the north and the south base camp sites.
